The introduction of the MDR has significantly increased the requirements for the marking of medical devices. Under the UDI (Unique Device Identification) regulation, products must be uniquely identifiable and traceable throughout their entire lifecycle. What may seem like a regulatory requirement on paper presents many manufacturers with new challenges in practice: The marking must remain permanently readable, withstand cleaning and sterilization processes, and be reliably documented at the same time.
